Texas Homebuyers Have Mixed Feelings About the Housing Market

A new poll asked Texas real estate agents how their clients feel about buying homes, and the answers were all over the place.

Most buyers said they had enough houses to choose from, but some still felt the market was competitive. About two-thirds of buyers said there were plenty of homes, while 20% said there weren’t enough.

Christy Gessler, the head of Texas Realtors, said, “The right time to buy is different for everyone. What matters most is understanding what each buyer needs right now, not trying to guess future prices or interest rates.”

The poll also showed that most buyers had enough time to decide on a house, but 18% felt a little pressure to make a choice quickly.

Even though there were homes available, competition was still real. Around 39% of buyers had to compete with other offers, while 57% didn’t. Many buyers, 63%, looked at other homes before buying the one they wanted.

When house hunting, most buyers visited 4 to 10 homes. Some saw 11 to 20, and a few even checked out more than 20 homes before deciding.

Some buyers stopped looking because homes were too expensive (42%) or didn’t have the features they wanted (30%). Half of buyers decided to increase the price they were willing to pay, while fewer lowered their budget.

Since this is the first poll like this, it’s hard to spot big trends in Texas yet. Gessler said, “Every area is different, and realtors can help buyers understand what’s happening in their neighborhood.”
