Buying a house in Texas isn’t as simple as picking one and moving in. This year, homebuyers have had some surprises, tough choices, and a few lessons along the way. Here’s what’s going on in 2025.
Plenty of Homes… or Not?
Some buyers felt spoiled for choice — about 1 in 4 said there were plenty of homes to look at. Most thought there were a fair amount to pick from, but it wasn’t overwhelming.
How Many Homes Do People See?
Most buyers toured 4 to 10 homes before finding “the one.” A few looked at 1 to 3, some checked 11 to 20, and only a tiny handful saw more than 21 homes. A few didn’t even tour a single home in person!
One Realtor noticed something interesting: “Buyers often think they know what they want… then they end up choosing a completely different style home.”
Competition is Real 😬
Buying a home isn’t always easy. Almost 40% of buyers faced competition, and over 60% had at least one offer rejected before finally snagging a house. Many didn’t get their first choice.

Budget changes were common:
- 50% of buyers raised their price range
- 31% lowered it
When it was time to buy:
- 42% paid about their target price

- 42% said homes were too expensive
- 37% had life changes that slowed things down
Many were unsure whether to wait for prices to drop or to make a move now.
Who Are These Buyers?
Realtors mostly worked with 1 to 3 buyers in the first half of 2025. About 71% helped at least one first-time buyer.
- 50% were repeat clients
- 28% came from referrals
- 17% were new leads
How Much Do Buyers Know?

- 38% knew very little
- 63% had some knowledge about buying homes
- 27% didn’t know much at all
