Macaulay Culkin Almost Bought the ‘Home Alone’ House for $5 Million to Make It a Fun Movie House

Macaulay Culkin, the star of Home Alone, revealed that he thought about buying the famous “Home Alone” house when it went up for sale in May for $5.25 million.

Speaking at a special screening of the movie in Illinois, the 44-year-old actor said, “I had half a mind to buy it. Just for giggles,” according to the New York Times.

The iconic house is located in Winnetka, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.

Culkin had a cool idea to turn it into a “movie fun house” where fans could sled down the stairs, just like his character Kevin did in the film.

But in the end, Culkin decided not to buy the house. Why? “I got kids. I’m busy, man,” he said.

He and his fiancée, actress Brenda Song, are parents to two young sons, Dakota, 3, and a 2-year-old whose name they haven’t shared.

What’s So Special About the “Home Alone” House?

The house, built in 1921, is a five-bedroom, six-bathroom dream home with some amazing features.

It has a sunroom, a sports court in the basement, a fully-equipped gym, and even a fancy movie theater. It’s no surprise it sold just one week after hitting the market!

The house has only been sold twice since the original Home Alone movie was filmed.

Macaulay Culkin’s Nostalgia Tour

Culkin is currently on a multi-city tour called A Nostalgic Night With Macaulay Culkin, where he’s celebrating the classic movie that made him a star.

At one event, he shared how being part of Home Alone was “a curse and a blessing” when he was younger.

Now that he’s a parent, he views the movie differently. “I watch it with my kids, and they have no idea who they’re sitting next to,” he said with a laugh.

Even though Culkin loves the movie, he missed a recent reunion with some of his former co-stars.

Cast members who played his siblings and cousins held a meet-and-greet in New Jersey last weekend, but Culkin wasn’t there.

The Home Alone house may be out of Culkin’s hands, but the movie will always be close to his heart.
