Not really. The idea that “all real estate agents are rich” is mostly a myth. Here’s the reality:
- Income varies widely. Some agents make six figures, but many earn much less, especially in their first few years.
- High income usually comes after experience. Top-performing agents who have built a strong network, specialize in high-end properties, or own their own brokerage tend to make the most money.
- Most agents earn modestly. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), the median gross income for realtors in recent years has been around $50,000–$60,000 per year, with part-time agents earning far less.
- Expenses cut into profits. Agents often pay for marketing, MLS fees, licensing, insurance, and other business costs out of their commissions, so gross income can be misleading.
💡 Bottom line: Only a minority of agents are wealthy. Most are middle-class and have to work hard to build a sustainable income. Wealth comes from experience, specialization, and consistency—not just having a real estate license.
