Weldon Family Loses Home in Fire, Red Cross Steps In to Help
WELDON, Calif.
A house fire broke out Thursday morning in Weldon, forcing three people out of their home.
Firefighters from the Kern County Fire Department worked hard to put out the flames while also dealing with dangerous power lines and metal fences around the property.
The fire happened on Bonikell Street around 11:30 a.m. on December 19.
Reports said an elderly woman might have been trapped inside, so firefighters rushed to the scene.
As they got closer, they could see thick smoke and big flames coming from the house.
Firefighters used multiple hoses and even a special tool called a “Deck Gun” to spray hundreds of gallons of water straight into the fire.
They searched the home but, thankfully, didn’t find anyone inside.
After getting the flames under control, crews stayed to make sure every last spark was put out.
No one was hurt in the fire, including the firefighters.
The three people who lived there lost their home but are getting help from the Red Cross.
Right now, the cause of the fire is still a mystery, and investigators are working to figure out what happened.
Opinion:
Fires like this are heartbreaking, especially so close to the holidays. It’s scary to think about losing everything in just minutes.
It’s also a reminder of how important it is to have fire safety plans and working smoke alarms in every home.
It’s great to see the Red Cross stepping up to help the family, but they’ll need even more support as they rebuild their lives.
This could be a wake-up call for all of us to check our fire safety plans and look out for neighbors who might need extra help in emergencies.
